I-95 at Belvidere Interchange Project

I-95 At Belvidere Road Interchange - Construction

Year 1

Construction Start

Work will begin on clearing and grubbing vegetation and topsoil, preparing staging areas, installing erosion and sediment controls, and performing other work necessary to facilitate construction such as clearing or moving existing utilities.

Earthwork/Grading/Roadway Improvements

Contractors will begin moving earth and undertaking changes to existing roadways such as preparing Belvidere Road so that traffic is maintained while the existing bridge is demolished and reconstructed.

Year 2

Demolish Existing Bridge

The existing bridge will begin to be demolished using methods that minimize impacts to traffic on I-95 such as nighttime work and temporary lane closures. Half of the existing bridge will remain in use for Belvidere Road traffic until the new bridge can carry traffic.

New Bridge Construction

Construction of the new Belvidere Road bridge will begin using methods that minimize impacts to traffic on I-95 such as nighttime work and temporary lane closures. Belvidere Road traffic will be switched to this new bridge when it can carry traffic and the remainder of the existing bridge will then be demolished.

Year 3

Substantial Completion & Open-To-Traffic

The final steps of construction will occur and include paving and striping the new interchange ramps, installing traffic control devices such as signals and signage on I-95 and Belvidere Road, and installing landscaping. Lastly, contractors will remove construction staging areas and erosion and sediment controls.
