TOLLING SYSTEM UPGRADES CONTINUE ON

INTERCOUNTY CONNECTOR WITH WEEKEND DETOURS

Latest Work Planned Between Shady Grove Road and Georgia Avenue

BALTIMORE, MD – The Maryland Transportation Authority (MDTA) is implementing its next generation electronic tolling systems, and as part of those upgrades the agency is replacing existing tolling hardware and software at all toll facilities. Work began at the Intercounty Connector (ICC/MD 200) in Montgomery and Prince George’s counties in January and continues this month.

Beginning 9 p.m. Friday, February 7, and continuing until 5 a.m. Monday, February 10, eastbound traffic on the ICC/MD 200 will be detoured at Shady Grove Road. The detour route will direct motorists south on Shady Grove Road to south on Frederick Road (MD 355), to East Gude Drive, to east on Norbeck Road and north on Georgia Avenue (MD 97) back to eastbound ICC/MD 200.

The following weekend, from 9 p.m. Friday, February 14, until 5 a.m. Monday, February 17, westbound ICC/MD 200 traffic will be detoured at Georgia Avenue (MD 97). The detour route will direct motorists south on Georgia Avenue (MD 97) to west on Norbeck Road, to East Gude Drive, to north on Frederick Road (MD 355) and north on Shady Grove Road back to westbound ICC/MD 200.

The temporary detours are needed due to the amount of equipment and work crews involved and to help ensure the safety of workers and motorists. Those traveling between I-370 and I-95/US 1 may consider taking I-495 when detours are in effect.

Crews will continue to work on one gantry in each direction of the ICC per weekend. MDTA will issue additional traffic advisories as work progresses and schedules are finalized. Work will be scheduled during off-peak hours,

including weekends and overnight. MDTA thanks customers for their patience and reminds them to Stay Alert So No One Gets Hurt!
