Cleaning, Painting and Miscellaneous Repairs Project

The $13.7 million cleaning, painting and repair project for the Governor Harry W. Nice Memorial/Senator Thomas “Mac” Middleton bridge (US 301) began in spring 2013. Construction is expected to last approximately two years. Work includes cleaning, painting and repairing portions of the existing structural steel, repairing and sealing the concrete bridge deck and replacing the catwalk and ladder system under the bridge's main span.

WHAT DRIVERS CAN EXPECT:

  • This project requires daytime and nighttime flagging operations, where the Nice Bridge is reduced to one lane with flagging operations alternating northbound and southbound traffic.
