FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

July 30, 2015

SECOND LANE ON RAMP FROM NORTHBOUND I-95 TO NORTHBOUND I-395 TO REOPEN

Weekend Closure of Russell Street Exit Ramp

WHAT:          The second lane on the ramp from northbound I-95 to northbound I-395 that was closed since July 14 for construction will reopen.  Both lanes on the ramp from northbound I-95 to northbound I-395 into downtown will now be open to traffic full time.

Once northbound I-395 ramp fully reopens, the ramp from northbound I-95 to Russell Street (Exit 52) will be closed temporarily to traffic.  The detour route will direct motorists to I-395 (Exit 53), to Lee Street, to Russell Street.

Southbound I-95 traffic lanes will shift with all four lanes to the left from the I-395 on-ramp to Exit 50 (Caton Avenue).  The on-ramp from Washington Boulevard to southbound I-95 remains closed 24/7.  Traffic from southbound Washington Boulevard will be detoured to Caton Avenue, to southbound I-95.  Traffic from northbound Washington Boulevard will be detoured to Bush Street, to Russell Street, to southbound I-95.

WHEN:         Weather permitting, the second lane on the ramp from northbound I-95 to northbound I-395 will reopen by Friday, July 31.

Weather permitting, the ramp from northbound I-95 to Russell Street (Exit 52) will be closed Friday, July 31, from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. Monday, Aug. 3.

Weather permitting, the southbound I-95 shift from the I-395 on-ramp to Exit 50 will be in effect by Saturday, Aug. 1, for approximately four weeks.

WHY:           Toll Dollars At Work: The ramp closure is part of the Maryland Transportation Authority's (MDTA) two-year, $64 million project to remove and replace the existing concrete deck (riding) surface and roadway joints on mainline I-95 and ramps in Baltimore City.

REMINDER: The work-zone speed limit is 50 mph on northbound and southbound I-95. Work-zone safety speed cameras in use.  The left lane on northbound I-95 between Exit 50 (Caton Avenue) and Exit 52 (Russell Street) is closed 24/7.
