FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

**AVOID I-895**

I-895 BALTIMORE HARBOR TUNNEL SOUTHBOUND BORE

CLOSED 24/7 UNTIL MID-JUNE STARTING APRIL 3

Two-Way Traffic Will Operate in Northbound Bore

Use I-695/Key Bridge or I-95/Fort McHenry Tunnel as Alternate Routes

WHAT:          The southbound bore of the Baltimore Harbor Tunnel (I-895) will be closed continuously until mid-June.  Two-way traffic (one lane in each direction) will operate in the northbound bore.  Motorists are reminded to obey speed limits and stay in your lane.

WHEN:           Weather permitting, the southbound bore will close at 8:30 p.m. on Friday, April 3, until approximately June 19.

WHY:             Toll Dollars at Work: The closure is part of the Maryland Transportation Authority’s (MDTA) three-year, $189 million project to replace the 60-year-old I-895 Bridge and the Holabird Avenue exit ramp north of the Harbor Tunnel and rehabilitate the Harbor Tunnel. The project began in April 2018 and is expected to be completed in summer 2021. Last month, the southbound bridge closed and two-way traffic was placed on the newly rebuilt northbound bridge. In addition, the Holabird Avenue exit ramp reopened. Work includes repairs to the tunnel portal, approach ramps and walls, deck and tiles. Extended closure will also allow for additional work on vent fans. For details visit 895bmore.com. Follow #895bmore on Twitter.
