#895BMORE BRIDGE TRAFFIC SWITCH
MARKS NEXT PHASE IN REPLACEMENT PROJECT
Two-Way Traffic on NEW Northbound Bridge; Holabird Ramp Reopened
Motorists Should Avoid I-895 and Use I-695/Key Bridge or I-95/Fort McHenry Tunnel
WHAT: Two-way traffic – one lane in each direction – has switched on the I-895 Bridge from the southbound bridge span to the newly constructed northbound bridge. Switching two-way traffic to the northbound bridge now will allow crews to begin demolishing and rebuilding the southbound bridge. As part of this transition, the rebuilt Holabird Avenue exit ramp also has been reopened.
WHEN: Effective Monday, March 23.
WHY: Toll Dollars At Work: The traffic pattern changes are part of the Maryland Transportation Authority’s
(MDTA) three-year, $189 million I-895 Bridge Project to replace the 60-year-old bridge and Holabird Avenue exit ramp north of the Harbor Tunnel, and rehabilitate the Harbor Tunnel. The project began in
April 2018 and is expected to be completed in summer 2021. Later this spring, the southbound bore of the Harbor Tunnel will close 24/7 for 60 days, with two-way traffic operating in the northbound bore. For more details on the project, visit 895bmore.com.
