MDTA POLICE STEPPING UP

IMPAIRED DRIVING ENFORCEMENT

ON ST. PATRICK'S DAY

NOTHING LUCKY ABOUT JAIL

#makeaplan

BALTIMORE, MD - On March 17, Maryland Transportation Authority (MDTA) Police will be out on the roadways enforcing impaired, distracted and aggressive driving laws during the St. Patrick's Day holiday.

"We want you to enjoy yourself this St. Patrick's Day, but be responsible and make a plan for a sober ride home," said MDTA Police Chief Col. Jerry Jones.

Motorists should be reminded that "Buzz Driving is Drunk Driving." According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, from 2011 - 2015, 252 lives were lost in drunk-driving crashes on St. Patrick's Day.

In addition, the MDTA Police want to remind motorists to make a plan prior to going out for St. Patrick's Day.

1. Choose a designated driver.

2. Call a taxi or ride-share service.

3. Take public transportation.

The MDTA Police are committed to reducing traffic crashes that result in serious injuries and deaths on our roadways.

The MDTA Police supports the "Toward Zero Deaths" campaign - a partnership to save lives and prevent injuries on Maryland's roadways. For more information, visit towardzerodeathsmd.com.
