FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Dec. 6, 2018
**TODAY**
TWO-WAY TRAFFIC BEGINS ON I-895 NORTH OF THE HARBOR TUNNEL IN BALTIMORE
One Lane in Each Direction on Southbound I-895
WHAT: Two-way traffic (one lane in each direction) will continue to operate 24/7 on I-895 on the north side of the Baltimore Harbor Tunnel to the Boston/O’Donnell Street exit ramp (Exit 11). Currently, one lane operates 24/7 in each direction. Crews will close the northbound portion of the bridge and the Holabird Avenue exit ramp (Exit 10), and two-way traffic will operate on the southbound bridge. One lane will be open in each direction and separated by barrier. Motorists should use I-695/Key Bridge or I-95/Fort McHenry Tunnel as alternate routes.
WHEN: Weather permitting, work begins Thursday, Dec. 6. The new traffic pattern will be in place by the morning of Friday, Dec. 7, and last until spring 2020.
WHY: Toll Dollars At Work: The closure is part of the Maryland Transportation Authority’s (MDTA) three-year, $189 million I-895 Bridge Project to replace the 60-year-old bridge north of the Harbor Tunnel. The project is expected to be complete in summer 2021. For details visit 895bmore.com.
