March 15 UPDATE: Date has changed to Saturday, March 18, at same times listed below.

TEMPORARY TRAFFIC HOLDS AT KEY & BAY BRIDGES FOR

LARGE CRANE MOVEMENT BY SHIP FROM PORT OF BALTIMORE

 ANTICIPATED THURSDAY, MARCH 16

Traffic Holds for Motorist Safety

Passage in Morning at Key and Afternoon at Bay

WHAT:   The Maryland Transportation Authority will temporarily hold traffic in both directions on the Francis Scott Key Bridge (I-695) and Chesapeake Bay Bridge (US 50/301) during passage of marine vessels carrying three large older, blue cranes heading outbound via the Chesapeake Bay.

WHEN:  Thursday, March 16, traffic on the Key Bridge will be held at approximately 9:30 a.m. for approximately 15-30 minutes; traffic on the Bay Bridge will be held at approximately 1:30 p.m. for approximately 15-30 minutes.

Note: Times and durations will be approximate and dependent upon the vessel’s progress. This transport is weather dependent.

WHY:    Traffic holds will be utilized for safety purposes to ensure that drivers are not distracted crossing these bridges during the cranes’ passage beneath the structures.
