NEW SPLIT TRAFFIC PATTERNS ON

NORTHBOUND I-95 IN BALTIMORE

#i95bmore

WHAT: Northbound I-95 traffic lanes will split from Exit 50 (Caton Avenue) to Exit 52 (Russell Street) with one lane to the left and three lanes to the right. To use Exit 51 (Washington Boulevard), motorists MUST be in the three right lanes prior to the split. Thru traffic stay to the left.

Northbound I-95 traffic lanes will split with three lanes to the left and one lane to the right from Exit 54 (Hanover Street) to the Fort McHenry Tunnel. To use Exit 54 or Exit 55 (Key Highway), traffic MUST be in the right lane prior to the split. Thru traffic stay to the left. Consider using Key Highway as an alternative to I-395 to access northbound I-95. Reminder: E-ZPass is accepted in all open toll lanes.

RightLeft

The ramp from northbound I-95 to Russell Street (Exit 52) will be closed temporarily to traffic. The detour route will direct motorists to I-395 (Exit 53), to Lee Street, to Russell Street.

WHEN: Weather permitting, the northbound I-95 split from Caton Avenue to Russell Street will be in effect by Sunday, April 19, for approximately three weeks.

Weather permitting, the northbound I-95 split from Hanover Street to the Fort McHenry Tunnel will be in effect by Tuesday, April 21, for approximately six weeks.

Weather permitting, the ramp from northbound I-95 to Russell Street will close Thursday, April 16, from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. the following morning.

WHY: Toll Dollars At Work: The split traffic patterns are part of the Maryland Transportation Authoritys (MDTA) two-year, $64 million project to remove and replace the existing concrete deck (riding) surface and roadway joints on mainline I-95 and ramps in Baltimore City.

Major delays are expected. Motorists traveling thru Baltimore City should use I-695/Key Bridge or I-895/Harbor Tunnel. Use alternate routes entering and exiting Baltimore City. Work-zone speed limits are reduced to 50 mph on I-95.
