Bay Bridge (US 50/301)

Lane Closures and Traffic Patterns

Scheduled for the Week of June 9 – 15, 2024

All work will be performed weather permitting. The MDTA urges motorists to drive with caution and obey all traffic-control devices and lane-control signals. Headlights are required at all times on the bridge. Lane closures are subject to change and closure times are dependent on traffic volumes and other work variables

TOLL DOLLARS AT WORK

The eastbound span may be closed Monday through Wednesday from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. the following morning, Thursday from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. the following morning and Saturday from 11 p.m. to 7 a.m. the following morning for preservation/maintenance work. The nighttime closures feature deck removal and replacement for the eastbound bridge deck replacement project. The MDTA has designed this project to help ensure minimal traffic impacts for residents and motorists by avoiding 24/7 lane closures. Temporary joint-connection grates will be utilized for this crucial work, allowing for travel lanes to reopen each morning and for a smoother driving transition across work areas. Learn more here. Two-way traffic will operate on the westbound span during the full eastbound span closures.

One lane of the westbound span may be closed Monday through Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and Thursday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. for preservation/maintenance work.

Note: Lane closures may start earlier if traffic volumes allow. Motorists advised to call 1-877-BAYSPAN (229-7726) for 24/7 bridge conditions.

Travel off-peak when crossing from shore to shore. The best times to cross the Bay Bridge on weekends include:

  • Friday – eastbound before 10 a.m. & after 9 p.m. and westbound before 10 a.m. & after 8 p.m.
  • Saturday – eastbound before 7 a.m. & after 6 p.m. and westbound before 9 a.m. & after 7 p.m.
  • Sunday – eastbound before 10 a.m. & after 7 p.m. and westbound before 11 a.m. & after 10 p.m.

Tolling Reminder:  All-electronic tolling is statewide in Maryland. Standard Video Toll rates apply for any trips not paid with a valid E-ZPass or Pay-By-Plate account at toll facilities. E-ZPass remains the most cost-effective way to travel toll roads in Maryland, saving drivers up to 77% versus the higher rates and additional paperwork that come with Video Tolls. Always properly mount your E-ZPass transponder and be sure your vehicles and billing information are up to date to receive the lowest toll rate for your account. Enroll in E-ZPass or Pay-By-Plate at DriveEzMD.com.
