Lane Closures and Traffic Patterns
Scheduled for the Week of July 26 – Aug. 1
All work will be performed weather permitting. The MDTA urges motorists to drive with caution and obey all traffic-control devices and lane-control signals. Headlights are required at all times on the bridge. Lane closures are subject to change and closure times are dependent on traffic volumes.
TOLL DOLLARS AT WORK
The eastbound span may be closed Sunday from midnight to 5 a.m. the following morning for preservation/maintenance work. Two-way traffic will operate on the westbound span during the full eastbound span closure.
The westbound span may be closed Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. the following morning, Wednesday from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. the following morning and Saturday from 11 p.m. to 7 a.m. the following morning for preservation/maintenance work.
Overnight/off-peak work on the westbound span will include deck/joint repairs and replacements that will result in periods of steel plates placed in the center and left lanes.
One lane of the eastbound span may be closed Monday through Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and Thursday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. for preservation/maintenance work. Two-way traffic will operate on the westbound span.
Note: Full-time all-electronic (cashless) tolling in effect. Tolls collected via gantry on Kent Island side. Three lanes merge down to two on eastbound US 50 at Oceanic Drive (Exit 32). Left lane will open to traffic when two-way is in effect on westbound bridge. Motorists should obey all signs and speed limits, as the approach to the bridge is an active work zone.
Travel off-peak when heading to and from the Eastern Shore. The best times to travel the Bay Bridge on weekends include:
- Friday – before 10 a.m. and after 10 p.m.
- Saturday – before 7 a.m. and after 5 p.m.
- Sunday – before 10 a.m. and after 10 p.m.
