REMINDER: WORK CONTINUES ON WESTBOUND BAY BRIDGE SUSPENSION SPAN

Submitted by Tamory Winfield on

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Oct. 18, 2017

REMINDER:

WORK CONTINUES ON WESTBOUND

BAY BRIDGE SUSPENSION SPAN

Increased Cable Work May Be Visible to Travelers

WHAT: Motorists may notice an increase in the number of workers on the westbound Bay Bridge (US 50/301) suspension cables. Crews are working on the cables and also accessing the tops of the towers via the cables. Work occurs around the clock, however, any lane closures associated with the work take place during regularly-scheduled, off-peak temporary daytime and night-time lane closures.

WHEN: The project began in summer 2016 and is expected to be complete in summer 2018.

WHY: The work is part of the MDTA's $29.6 million rehabilitation project for the westbound Bay Bridge suspension span. The project is part of the MDTA's $273 million system preservation and safety investment at the Bay Bridge over the next six years.

The MDTA encourages motorists to drive carefully around all work zones. Drivers should pay attention to electronic and static signs for up-to-date traffic patterns. And remember, headlights ON when crossing the bridge.

For 24/7 Bay Bridge traffic information, call 1-877-BAYSPAN (1-877-229-7726) or visit baybridge.com. To view real-time traffic camera images on MDTA roadways, visit mdta.maryland.gov.
