MDTA POLICE APPREHEND MAN WIELDING KNIFE AT BALTIMORE CONVENIENCE STORE

BALTIMORE, MD - The Maryland Transportation Authority (MDTA) Police apprehended a man who was assaulting a woman with a knife yesterday in the Royal Farms store parking lot on Holabird Avenue in Baltimore.

MDTA Police Officers apprehended Mark Edward Commodore, 49, of Frankford Avenue in Baltimore after they observed him swinging a knife with a four-inch blade and lunging toward a woman in the parking lot. The woman was defending herself with a broom handle when the MDTA Police were driving near the store just before noon yesterday.

Officers ordered Commodore to drop the knife, and after the second order, Commodore threw the knife into bushes next to the officers. They ordered Commodore to the ground and took him into custody without further incident. The victim stated that Commodore had been harassing store customers prior to the assault.

Commodore was charged with first- and second-degree assault and a weapons violation. After processing, MDTA Police Officers transported him to the Baltimore Central Booking and Intake Facility for an appearance before a District Court Commissioner. He was held on $350,000 bail.
The Maryland Transportation Authority Police, a nationally accredited force, is the seventh-largest law-enforcement agency in the state, with more than 600 sworn and civilian law-enforcement professionals. MDTA Police officers provide law enforcement at the MDTA's highways, bridges and tunnels; at BWI Thurgood Marshall Airport; and at the Port of Baltimore.
