MDTA POLICE TO STEP UP

AGGRESSIVE DRIVING ENFORCEMENT

BALTIMORE, MD – From May 12 – 21, the Maryland Transportation Authority (MDTA) Police will continue to enhance highway safety by targeting aggressive drivers.

The MDTA Police goal is to reduce the number of crashes caused by aggressive driving. Aggressive driving includes speeding, tailgating, running red lights and stop signs and unsafe lane changes. During this campaign, officers want motorists to make decision that help ensure a safe driving environment for everyone on the road.

According to the Maryland Department of Transportation Maryland Highway Safety Office (MHSO), an average of 41 fatalities and 251 serious injuries occur each year in traffic crashes involving aggressive drivers.

During the next 10 days, MDTA officers will be conducting high-visibility enforcement initiatives and educating motorists about aggressive driving. Ending aggressive starts with motorists allowing more time to get to their destinations, obeying the posted speed limits, not following other drivers to closely and not driving when they’re angry, upset or tired.

The MDTA Police support the MHSO Toward Zero Deaths campaign – a partnership to save lives and prevent injuries on Maryland’s roadway. For more information, visit towardzerodeathsmd.com

The MDTA Police remind you to “Move Over or Slow Down” for emergency vehicles and tow trucks that are stopped on a highway with visual signals.
