MDTA POLICE PARTICIPATE IN

CHECKPOINT STRIKEFORCE – BAY TO BEACH

BALTIMORE, MD – From Aug. 17 – 19, the Maryland Transportation Authority (MDTA) Police will conduct high-visibility impaired driving law enforcement on all MDTA roadways, with a specific border-to-border focus on the US 50 corridor from the William Preston Lane Jr. Memorial (Bay) Bridge to Ocean City.

The effort is part of the next wave of Checkpoint Strikeforce, which takes place throughout the state from Aug. 17 – Sept. 3.   MDTA Police officers will emphasize detecting and deterring impaired drivers.

Drivers who are impaired by alcohol or drugs will be stopped, arrested and prosecuted. It is estimated that a being arrested on DUI charges can cost a driver upwards of $10,000 and possible points on his or her driving record.

“Drivers who drive drunk or drugged make a choice. It’s a dangerous choice that can injure or kill anyone on the road, including themselves. This is a totally preventable problem,” said MDTA Police Chief Col. Jerry Jones.

Citizens who chose to drink are encouraged to find a safe way home including:

  1. Choose a designated driver.
  2. Call a taxi or ride share service.
  3. Take public transportation.

The MDTA Police supports the “Toward Zero Deaths” campaign -- a partnership to save lives and prevent injuries on Maryland’s roadways.  For more information, visit towardzerodeathsmd.com
