MDTA Police Make Arrests in Thefts of Airport Rental Vehicles

Two Charged in Thefts of Vehicles with Combined Value of More Than $660,000

Hanover, Md. (June 18, 2020) – Maryland Transportation Authority (MDTA) Police and members of the Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force arrested two people Monday following a lengthy investigation into the theft of numerous vehicles from the Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport rental car facility.

MDTA Police detectives charged 26-year-old Shakierra D. Scott of the 2200 block of Round Road in Baltimore City and 31-year-old Travis J. Scott of the same address in connection with thefts of 28 rental cars between May and July 2019. The vehicles had a combined value of more than $660,000.

Detectives allege Ms. Scott used her position as a security officer with Allied Universal Security Services, a company contracted by rental car companies at BWI Marshall Airport, to allow Mr. Scott to drive the rental cars from the secure facility without a rental contract. Police allege the two then sold the rental cars.

Shakierra D. Scott and Travis J. Scott each face numerous charges including theft scheme greater than $100,000 and 28 counts of unlawful taking of a motor vehicle.

The MDTA Police thank the Baltimore Police Department and the Anne Arundel County State’s Attorney’s Office for assistance with this investigation.
