MDTA POLICE INVESTIGATING FATAL NEW YEAR’S DAY CRASH

Police Seek Information after Pedestrian Struck by Multiple Vehicles

Baltimore, Md. (January 3, 2022) – The Maryland Transportation Authority (MDTA) Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating a fatal crash involving a pedestrian that occurred at approximately 2:15 a.m. on Saturday, January 1, 2022.

An MDTA Police Officer assigned to the Central Command Detachment was on patrol in the area of southbound I-395 near Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard in Baltimore City when he stopped to investigate a possible collision. Investigation determined that multiple vehicles had fatally struck a pedestrian in that location. Officers interviewed multiple drivers who struck the pedestrian and stopped at the scene.

It is possible that additional vehicles struck the pedestrian in the roadway. Investigators are reviewing witness accounts and various pieces of evidence. Additional witnesses or persons with information on the crash are asked to contact the MDTA Police Collision Reconstruction Unit at 443-915-7750.

The deceased is identified as 34-year-old Latia Nicole Hopkins of Baltimore. A preliminary investigation indicates Hopkins was driving a grey 2007 Nissan Maxima with Maryland temporary registration T0375589 and stopped it on southbound I-395 prior to the crash. Anyone who witnessed this vehicle traveling or stopped on southbound I-395 prior to the crash is also asked to contact investigators at 443-915-7750.

The Maryland Transportation Authority Police, a nationally accredited force, is the eighth-largest law enforcement agency in the State with more than 500 sworn and civilian law enforcement professionals. MDTA Police Officers provide law enforcement services at the MDTA’s highways, bridges and tunnels, at BWI Thurgood Marshall Airport, and at the Port of Baltimore.
