** ATTENTION COMMERCIAL VEHICLE OPERATORS ** WESTBOUND BAY BRIDGE HEIGHT CLEARANCE REDUCED TO 14’6” FOR SIX MONTHS

Submitted by John Sales on

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

April 18, 2019

** ATTENTION COMMERCIAL VEHICLE OPERATORS **

WESTBOUND BAY BRIDGE HEIGHT CLEARANCE

REDUCED TO 14’6” FOR SIX MONTHS

WHAT:  The height clearance on the westbound span of the William Preston Lane Jr. Memorial (Bay) Bridge (US 50/301) will be reduced to 14’6” for approximately six months.  Specifically, the through-truss span height clearance will be reduced to 14’6”.  Vehicles above this height should plan to take an alternate route.

WHEN: Weather permitting, the morning of Tuesday, April 23, until fall 2019.

WHY: The reduced clearance is necessary to complete the final phase of westbound span painting, which began in summer 2017 and involves cleaning and painting the through-truss span and welded steel-girder spans on the eastern portion of the bridge.  The contractor will be installing a platform to contain materials that result from the cleaning and painting operation that will take place above the roadway.  The project is expected to be complete in summer 2020.
