MDTA POLICE INVESTIGATING

AFTER POLICE VEHICLE STRUCK BY BULLET NEAR I-395 IN BALTIMORE

Anyone with Information Asked to Call 443-608-8313

BALTIMORE, Md. (January 30, 2024) – Maryland Transportation Authority (MDTA) Police Officers are investigating an early morning shooting in which an MDTA Police vehicle was struck once by gunfire.

At approximately 2:15 a.m. today, an MDTA Police Officer was assisting with a work zone closure in the right lane of the ramp from northbound I-95 to I-395 (Exit 53) in Baltimore City. At this preliminary stage in the investigation, MDTA Police investigators believe a shot was fired from a passing vehicle that struck the MDTA Police vehicle, an unmarked Dodge Charger, which had its emergency lights activated. The officer was not injured.

MDTA Police investigators are aware of other shootings that took place in Prince George’s County and Washington D.C. earlier this morning. Investigators are actively working with our law enforcement partners to determine if these incidents are connected.

This is a developing investigation. Anyone who witnessed suspicious activity on northbound I-95 near I-395 in Baltimore City is asked to call the MDTA Police at 443-608-8313.

The Maryland Transportation Authority Police, a nationally accredited force, is the eighth-largest law enforcement agency in the State with more than 500 sworn and civilian law enforcement professionals. MDTA Police Officers provide law enforcement services at the MDTA’s highways, bridges, and tunnels, at BWI Thurgood Marshall Airport, and at the Port of Baltimore.
