MDTA POLICE TO CONDUCT SOBRIETY CHECKPOINT

AT KEY BRIDGE TONIGHT

Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over

#MakeAPlan

BALTIMORE, MD – To raise awareness and to detect and deter impaired drivers, the Maryland Transportation Authority (MDTA) Police will be conducting a sobriety checkpoint TONIGHT, Friday, Dec. 28, at the Francis Scott Key Bridge (I-695) toll plaza in Baltimore.

“While the holiday season is in full swing, this is an excellent time to remind motorists to make a plan for a sober ride home,” said MDTA Police Chief Col. Jerry Jones.

As part of the checkpoint, the MDTA Police will distribute information about the laws and potential consequences of driving impaired. Motorists found to be driving while impaired by drugs or alcohol will be arrested and prosecuted.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration states that in 2017, nearly 30 percent (10,874) of all fatal vehicle crashes involved drunk drivers with a blood alcohol content above the legal limit of .08. Of those fatal crashes, 885 occurred in December.

The MDTA Police support the MHSO Toward Zero Deaths campaign – a partnership to save lives and prevent injuries on Maryland roadways. For more information, visit towardzerodeathsmd.com

Members of the media who are interested in covering this DUI Checkpoint should contact MDTA Police PIO Cpl. Edward Bartlinski at ebartlinski@mdta.maryland.gov.
