**AVOID I-895**
CONTINUOUS WEEKDAY TWO-WAY TRAFFIC PATTERN
AT I-895 BALTIMORE HARBOR TUNNEL BEGINS SUNDAY NIGHT
Two-Way Traffic Will Operate in Northbound Tube Weekdays into Early September
Use I-695/Key Bridge or I-95/Fort McHenry Tunnel as Alternate Routes
WHAT: The southbound tube of the Baltimore Harbor Tunnel (I-895) will be closed continuously weekdays from Sundays at 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. Fridays until September 3 without daytime weekend traffic impacts. Two-way traffic (one lane in each direction) will operate in the northbound tube. In addition, Friday and Saturday overnight closures may occur in either tube.
Motorists are reminded to obey speed limits and stay in your lane.
WHEN: Weather permitting, the weekday southbound tube closures will start at 10 p.m. on Sunday, July 12.
WHY: Toll Dollars at Work: The closures are part of the Maryland Transportation Authority’s (MDTA) three-year, $189 million project to replace the 60-year-old I-895 Bridge and the Holabird Avenue exit ramp north of the Harbor Tunnel and rehabilitate the Harbor Tunnel. The project began in April 2018 and is expected to be completed in summer 2021. Work includes repairs to the tunnel portal, approach walls, and tile & pump replacement.
