MDTA POLICE CHARGE BALTIMORE COUNTY MAN IN I-895 SHOOTING

Suspect is Charged with Attempted First-Degree Murder

BALTIMORE, MD – Maryland Transportation Authority (MDTA) Police and Maryland State Police have charged a Baltimore County man who is the suspect in two road rage incidents that occurred on Aug. 6 – a shooting on I-895 in Baltimore City and another incident on I-95 in Howard County.

The MDTA Police have charged Mr. Jamal Norton of the 800 block of Cinnamon Ridge Place in Baltimore County with Attempted First-Degree Murder and nine related charges. The Maryland State Police have charged Mr. Norton with First Degree Assault. He is currently being held on a

no-bail status. A court date has not yet been set in either case.

MDTA Police and Maryland State Police executed multiple search and arrest warrants on Aug. 29 that led to the arrest of Mr. Norton.

On Aug. 6, MDTA Police officers were called to the scene of a shooting that was the result of a possible road rage incident on I-895 near the Potee Street exit in Baltimore City. Officers arrived on the scene and rendered aid to the male driver, who had been shot.  He was transported to an area hospital for treatment and was released later that evening.

Following that shooting, the Maryland State Police received a call from a motorist who stated another driver pointed a gun at him while traveling on

I-95 in Howard County.  Following the incidents, the MDTA Police partnered with the Maryland State Police to investigate both events and concluded that the suspect in both cases was Mr. Norton.  The joint investigation revealed that both incidents occurred consecutively and involved the same vehicle and suspect.
