I-95 ETL Northbound Extension - Reconstruction of the Clayton Road Overpass at I-95
As part of the MDTA’s $1.1 billion program to relieve congestion and improve travel along the I-95 corridor into Harford County, the MDTA replaced the Clayton Road overpass at I-95 which was more than 50 years old. The overpass was lengthened and raised to provide sufficient room for the northbound ETL improvements. To avoid future disruption, the new overpass will provide room for a possible future southbound ETL extension.
The new overpass includes:
- One lane in each direction, like today’s configuration
- Stone pattern finish
- Water quality improvements

Clayton Road Overpass at I-95 Reopens to Traffic
The Clayton Road overpass at I-95 has reopened to traffic. The overpass closed for reconstruction in September 2020 and has reopened as scheduled in April 2022. MDTA thanks local residents and motorists for their patience.

About Construction
Construction of the Clayton Road overpass began in September 2020 and was opened to traffic in April 2022. To provide a safe environment, the overpass was closed between October 2020 and April 2022. This provided the shortest schedule for the new bridge construction.
