I-895 Harbor Tunnel Administration Building Now Open,

Toll Plaza Accepting Cash Payment

BALTIMORE, MD (July 12, 2019) — The Maryland Transportation Authority (MDTA) has reopened the administration building, cash lanes and E-ZPass Customer Service Center at the Interstate 895/Baltimore Harbor Tunnel facility. The Harbor Tunnel toll plaza is back to normal operations. Cash customers can now stop at the toll booths to make payment.

MDTA officials closed the building Tuesday out of an abundance of caution after two employees were diagnosed with legionellosis. Both received treatment for the illness, which is a form of bacterial pneumonia. Earlier this week health officials conducted a review of the facility and conducted test sampling. The results are pending, but in the meantime the MDTA treated water systems at the facility, a step that’s typically recommended by health officials if Legionella is found in a water system. This was a proactive step taken by the MDTA, as there has been no confirmation of the bacteria in the facility’s systems.

With operations returning to normal, cash customers should stop at the toll booths to make payment. Customers without an E-ZPass or cash will be charged the video toll rate, which is 1.5 times the cash/base rate. Additionally, the E-ZPass Customer Service Center and SafeZones payment center in the Harbor Tunnel administration building have reopened.

MDTA officials thank commuters for their patience.
