Since You’ve Been Gone: Bay Bridge Reminders

NEW Bay Bridge traffic pattern for eastbound motorists with the full-time all-electronic (cashless) tolling system. Three lanes merge down to two at Oceanic Drive (Exit 32). Left lane will open to traffic when two-way (contraflow) is in effect on the westbound bridge (See image below). Weather and traffic volumes permitting, the MDTA will implement two-way traffic operations to help alleviate eastbound delays at the Bay Bridge.

No more stopping to pay tolls! Passenger-vehicle drivers without an E-ZPass will be mailed a Notice of Toll Due (NOTD). The current two-axle Video Toll rate is $4 (will become $6 - 30 days after Maryland’s COVID-19 state of emergency is lifted). Tolls are no longer collected at the plaza structure, rather via overhead gantry on the Eastern Shore side (See image below).

BE SURE TO MOUNT YOUR E-ZPASS TRANSPONDER PROPERLY TO AVOID RECEIVING A VIDEO TOLL NOTICE OF TOLL DUE (NOTD) IN THE MAIL.

Motorists MUST pay attention and adhere to overhead lane control signals (See image below).

  • DOWNWARD GREEN ARROW:  You are permitted to drive in the lane beneath the GREEN ARROW signal.
  • YELLOW X:  You should prepare to vacate the lane beneath the YELLOW X signal and move to a lane with a DOWNWARD GREEN ARROW.
  • RED X:  The lane is closed and you MUST NOT enter or travel in any lane over which a RED X signal is shown.

Continue to obey all signs and speed limits, as the toll plaza remains an active work zone.

The MDTA Police will remain vigilant and target dangerous drivers, seatbelt violations and criminal activity. Every crash, injury and death caused by impaired driving is completely preventable.

Motorists pay the lowest tolls with E-ZPass Maryland! E-ZPass Maryland 2-axle toll rate is $2.50 at the Bay Bridge. Sign up 24/7 at ezpassmd.com. E-ZPass Customer Service Centers, including those at Maryland Department of Transportation Motor Vehicle Administration branches, are closed temporarily due to the COVID-19 state of emergency. However, E-ZPass "On-the-Go" transponders are available at participating Giant Food and Weis Markets. They come loaded with $25 in pre-paid tolls ready for immediate use. Then you can sign up online for E-ZPass service. Retail locations can be found here https://www.ezpassmd.com/en/onthego/locations.shtml

Frequent commuters can take advantage of additional E-ZPass Maryland discount rates through select plans available. See plans here https://www.ezpassmd.com/en/about/plans.shtml.
