MDTA POLICE STEPPING UP

SEATBELT ENFORCEMENT

#buckleup

BALTIMORE, Md. - For the next 14 days, the Maryland Transportation Authority (MDTA) Police are joining law-enforcement agencies, the Maryland Highway Safety Office (MHSO) and highway-safety advocates in renewing a pledge to save lives during the National "Click It or Ticket" campaign.

"During this campaign, MDTA Police Officers are urging motorists and their passengers to buckle up. A simple click can prevent you from being seriously injured or losing your life, said MDTA Police Chief Colonel Jerry Jones."

According to recent figures from MHSO, over the past five years, an average of 109 people have lost their lives and another 282 were seriously injured each year on Maryland's roadways while not wearing a seat belt or being properly restrained.

The MDTA Police are conducting high-visibility enforcement initiatives and educating motorists about the importance of being restrained by a seatbelt. Maryland law requires all occupants in a motor vehicle to be restrained seat belt.

The MDTA Police support the MHSO Toward Zero Deaths campaign - a partnership to save lives and prevent injuries on Maryland roadways. For more information, visit towardzerodeathsmd.com

The MDTA Police remind you to Move Over or Slow Down for emergency vehicles and tow trucks that stopped on a highway and using visual signals.
